Instapundit linked this this morning, discussing that very pithy statement from Howard Dean: “The idea that we're going to win the war in Iraq is an idea which is just plain wrong.” I've seen and heard several commenters in various places discuss this statement. What I haven't seen or heard is someone putting forth the obvious: that it is true.

Why would an ardent war supporter like myself say this? I'm sure you already know, but I'll say it anyway. We're not going to win, because we already have won. Right now, we're just cleaning up the mess.

This can't possible be an original point. Somebody, if you find one, link up an essay/article/post where it's already been made. Thanks.

Whew! You had me worried for a second.
Didn't Kerry spout a mantra, 'We won the war, now we have to win the peace'?
The mouthpieces of the Left are really some strange ducks. (I don't think that's original, either.) With them, it may come even to this: "Billy Bob got a tummy ache in Iraq-- We must pull out now!"
